DETAILS & SIZING

Rare vintage Wedgwood cameo mounted in hand polished 9 carat gold.

The turtle symbolises longevity, perseverance, steadfastness, protection, healing, tranquility and transformation.

A very rare white bas-relief motif delicately fired onto classic Portland blue matt Jasperware. A striking ring suitable for a man or woman and can be worn on any finger.

This vintage cameo is one of the last to be produced by Wedgwood’s Stoke-on-Trent pottery and dates from the 1950s- 1980s. The hand made, kiln fired quality makes it slightly irregular and each setting has to be adjusted to fit the bespoke 9ct solid gold setting.

This ring will be lost wax cast, polished and set by hand in London, England and finally hallmarked in Hatton Garden, London.

Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. All rings are bespoke and made to order and non returnable unless faulty.

About Wedgwood

Abolitionist, potter, entrepreneur, Josiah Wedgwood revolutionised ceramics.

Founded in the 1770s Wedgwood’s elegant designs were influenced by classicism but his pottery though decorative was functional and made to be enjoyed and used by generations – an approach shared by Ferian.

Wedgwood’s Jasperware was said to have taken 10,000 experiments to create the unique matt coloured stoneware made most famous by the powder ‘Wedgwood blue’. dark blue, Portland blue, lilac, sage green (described as "sea-green" by Wedgwood), black balsalt, and yellow were also used, with sage green due to chromium oxide, blue to cobalt oxide, and lilac to manganese oxide, with yellow probably coming from a salt of antimony, and black from iron oxide. The Jasperware base had reliefs mostly in white delicately applied by hand then kiln fired to create the classical motifs.

The Wedgwood pottery is now a museum and owned by the Victoria and Albert museum.

ABOUT VINTAGE WEDGWOOD CAMEOS

Ferian's designer Leonie Branston has a special interest in preserving and reframing British crafts so they can be enjoyed and appreciated by a contemporary audience.  At Ferian we are particularly drawn to the vintage Wedgwood cameos dating from the 1950s-80s featuring heraldry, nature and nautical motifs for use in our jewellery.

Abolitionist, potter, entrepreneur, Josiah Wedgwood revolutionised ceramics. His pioneering spirit transformed a cottage industry into an art form, and his legacy is internationally renowned today. Founded in the 1770s the elegant designs were influenced by classicism, but his pottery though decorative was functional, durable and made to be enjoyed and used by generations. The signature fine matt porcelain — known as Jasperware, was developed after over 10,000 experiments. Many unique colours were created; Dark blue, Portland blue, Lilac and Sage green, but by far the most famous is the Pale blue, a tone recognisable around the world today. The patterned bas-relief motifs were delicately applied by hand then kiln fired.

The Stoke-on-Trent pottery is now a museum, owned by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
