NATURE CARES FOR ITS GEMS - HERE'S TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR JEWELLERY

GEMSTONE JEWELLERY

Take care not to drop gemstone jewellery on hard surfaces as the impact may cause damage. Wrap gemstone jewellery in a soft cloth before storing, to prevent chips or scratches from your other jewellery. Shine the stone with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water.  Apply makeup, perfume, and hair products before putting on jewellery, and do not wear your gold or gemstone pieces in a swimming pool, sauna, steam or submerge in water.  Malachite can be toxic if exposed to wet skin.

We do not recommend ultra-sonic cleaning for gemstones.

Please note we do not recommend resizing as the gemstone may crack.

JEWELLERY SET WITH VINTAGE WEDGWOOD

Wedgwood jasperware has been fired at high temperatures and is crafted to be durable.  However, it is a ceramic material. Please avoid knocking or dropping on hard surfaces which may cause damage.  Do not immerse in hot water, saunas or steam rooms. Do not wear in chlorinated swimming pools as chlorine can damage gold, causing it to pit or become brittle.

Please note these pieces can not be resized as the ceramic discs may crack.

CARING FOR CERAMIC JEWELLERY

Firstly clean the gold or silver mount with a specialist silver/gold cleaning cloth.  We recommend placing the object in a plastic dish to prevent any knocks or chipping. Wash the jasper cameo body by using a soft cloth and a mild detergent diluted with warm water, taking care not to over rub the bas relief motif as this can cause damage. Do not immerse in water as this can loosen the fixings of the mounts. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft lint free cloth. For more difficult marks, gently rubbing with an old tooth brush or soft nail brush with a mild diluted detergent should remove any ingrained old dirt. Dry with a soft cloth or leave in the air to dry naturally. Do not use abrasive materials or acetone on jasper cameos.

Black Basalt

Black basalt is a stoneware body but should not be washed in the same way as jasper. Over time black basalt gains a natural surface patina which is lost when washed. Black basalt objects benefit from handling and should be dusted with a soft lint free cloth.

Be careful when wearing gold rings and other jewellery whilst handling items manufactured in the black basalt body, as it is a natural touch-stone for precious metals and gold can leave indelible marks or streaks on the surface of the object.

REMOVE BEFORE SWIMMING

Apply makeup, perfume and hair products before putting on jewellery, and do not wear your gold or enamelled pieces in a swimming pool. Sea salt and chlorine can damage gold, causing it to pit or become brittle.

ENAMEL JEWELLERY

The biggest risk to enamel is cracking due to the impact of dropping it on hard surfaces. Wrap enamel jewellery in a soft cloth before storing to prevent the glass enamel from sustaining chips or scratches from your other jewellery. Polish enamel with a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water.  Remove whilst showering and do not submerge in water.

Please note we do not recommend resizing as the glass enamel may crack.

GOLD, SILVER AND BRASS JEWELLERY

Gently polish with precious metal liquid and soft cloth to restore original shine.  Silver and brass oxidise more when stored and we recommend keeping them in anti tarnish bags such as below link.
