Handmade in London and lost-wax cast in gold-plated brass, this Ferian swivel fob necklace is crafted to the standards of fine jewellery. It features vintage Wedgwood horses in an elegant prancing poses on matt Jasperware. Collected over many years, the cameos and reliefs date from the 1970s–80s.
The medallions celebrate the friendship between the renowned equestrian painter George Stubbs and Josiah Wedgwood. Mutual admirers, they collaborated in the 1770s when Wedgwood made ceramic tablets for Stubbs to paint on, an early meeting of art and industry.
Miniature works of ceramic art, they are a collectable piece of British craft history. Also available in gold and sterling silver.
London Craft
Each vintage ceramic motif is set in a bespoke solid brass swivel fob designed by Ferian, lost-wax cast, polished and assembled by hand by one master craftsperson. The fob is plated with 3 microns of 14 carat gold and finished with a 12-carat gold-filled curb chain. Its reverse bears the Ferian flag, signifying England in naval flags and our commitment to British craft making. These are not visible once the medallion is set, but we can send you a photograph of the mark for provenance, as each piece is unique.

Because every piece is created individually by hand, please allow 3–4 weeks for delivery. Bespoke pieces are not returnable unless faulty.

Ferian's designer Leonie Branston has a special interest in preserving and reframing British crafts so they can be enjoyed and appreciated by a contemporary audience. At Ferian we are particularly drawn to the vintage Wedgwood cameos dating from the 1950s-80s featuring heraldry, nature and nautical motifs for use in our jewellery.
Abolitionist, potter, entrepreneur, Josiah Wedgwood revolutionised ceramics. His pioneering spirit transformed a cottage industry into an art form, and his legacy is internationally renowned today. Founded in the 1770s the elegant designs were influenced by classicism, but his pottery though decorative was functional, durable and made to be enjoyed and used by generations. The signature fine matt porcelain — known as Jasperware, was developed after over 10,000 experiments. Many unique colours were created; Dark blue, Portland blue, Lilac and Sage green, but by far the most famous is the Pale blue, a tone recognisable around the world today. The patterned bas-relief motifs were delicately applied by hand then kiln fired.
The Stoke-on-Trent pottery is now a museum, owned by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
